Peter preached that Jesus is the author of life. As Peter and John entered the Temple, a man lame from birth was begging for money. The man looked to Peter expecting money, but instead, something extraordinary happened. Acts 3:6 But Peter said, “I don’t have any silver or gold for you. But I’ll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!” 7 Then Peter took the lame man by the right hand and helped him up. And as he did, the man’s feet and ankles were instantly healed and strengthened. [1]
Soon, the man jumped up and down, praising God for his healing miracle, and went into the Temple with Peter and John. Then, people began to recognize that this was the same man begging at the Temple gate, and they were astounded.
Peter Preaches in the Temple
Acts 3:12 Peter saw his opportunity and addressed the crowd. “People of Israel,” he said, “what is so surprising about this? [2] Peter had the people’s attention as they observed a man who was healed in the name of Jesus with their own eyes. Peter took the oportunity to declare that Jesus, crucified and resurrected, was the long-awaited Messiah spoken of by the prophets.
Acts 3:15For it is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—the God of all our ancestors—who has brought glory to his servant Jesus by doing this.”[3] Peter proclaimed that this same Jesus is the one you handed to Pilate. Acts 3:15 You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead. And we are witnesses of this fact! [4]
Jesus, the Author of Life
How is Jesus the author, and how should his role as an author affect my life? Writers are creators, and authors bring characters, places, and ideas to life that previously did not exist. Jesus is the author of life and participated in the creation, including us. Colossians 1:16For through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. Everything was created through him and for him. [5]
Jesus is not only the author of life but the creator and sustainer of our faith, as explained in Hebrews 12:2. Through the work of the Author of Life, we are born again and become faithful followers of Jesus. Jesus is the author of your life, your faith, and His plans for us. As we follow the lead of the Holy Spirit, the Lord is the key to our life unfolding in every way. We can be thankful that the Lord intervened to call us out of darkness into His marvelous light. Jesus is indeed the author of our life in every way.
