Being with Jesus changes us. It is a miracle of faith and the transformation of the Holy Spirit. This transformation is evident in Peter and John’s lives as they pray for a lame man. Later, when confronted by the religious leaders about this healing, they boldly proclaimed the message of Jesus.
The healed man was so excited he began leaping and praising God. With all the commotion caused by this fantastic healing, the religious leaders questioned Peter and John. Peter and John quickly and confidently proclaimed that the mighty name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene healed this man. They said this same Jesus is the one you crucified, but God raised him from the dead.
Being with Jesus Changes Us on the Inside
You may be struggling today, but the Lord sees your struggles and wants to bring healing and transformation to your heart. When we come to faith in Jesus, it may not change our circumstances, but how we see them may change. Life seems less overwhelming when I know the Holy Spirit lives in me and God will never leave me.
When the Lord begins to transform us, we are like clay in His hands, molding us in ways we never thought possible. This molding process happened with Peter and John. The healed man was an inconvenient truth that stood before the Jewish leadership. Acts 4:13 The members of the council were amazed when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, for they could see that they were ordinary men with no special training in the Scriptures. They also recognized them as men who had been with Jesus.[1]
Has Being with Jesus Changed You?
How does this verse about Peter and John being with Jesus challenge and inspire you? Do others who spend time with us recognize by our behavior that we have been with Jesus? Would they be amazed at our abilities because of Him, even though we are pretty ordinary? Part of walking with Jesus is allowing the Holy Spirit to refine us so we act like Jesus.
My son sent me a picture of his one-year-old daughter pretending to read a book because that is what she saw him doing. As we spend time in the Lord’s presence in His word, prayer, and worship, something begins to happen on the inside. Transformation may not be as fast as expected but spending time with Jesus bears fruit over time. James 4:8 Come close to God, and God will come close to you.[2]
