The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

The Spirit’s timing reflects God’s intervention and His hand on His children. God brought you into the world at a particular time and place in His perfect timing. Psalm 139:16You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. [1]

The world tells us life is all about us, but God’s Word teaches He has a plan for our life. To follow God’s plan, we must give up our free will and allow the Holy Spirit to lead us. Romans 8:14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. [2] We may not know where God will lead us as He unfolds our life, but He does.

As we follow the Lord’s leading, we soon find that we can trust His guidance. Throughout His life, Simeon had learned to trust the Lord and follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. Ponder how the Lord’s guidance has affected your life.

God’s Ongoing Work in Our Life

Luke 2:25 At that time there was a man in Jerusalem named Simeon. He was righteous and devout and was eagerly waiting for the Messiah to come and rescue Israel.[3] Simeon is a mature believer when he goes to the Temple to meet Mary, Joseph, and Jesus. He is righteous and devout, meaning he has been through a process of refinement and transformation. Like a sculptor of a masterpiece, the Lord continually works in our lives to mold and prune us along our journey.

Think how the Lord has molded and shaped you and what your life would be like without His sculpting hand. As Simeon waited for the Messiah’s coming, God revealed something special to him. Luke 2:25bThe Holy Spirit was upon him 26 and had revealed to him that he would not die until he had seen the Lord’s Messiah.[4] Many people were waiting for the Messiah, but the Spirit told him he would see the Messiah with his own eyes.

Being Faithful

Simeon waited faithfully for the day to meet the Messiah; now it had arrived. Luke 2:27 That day, the Spirit led him to the Temple. So when Mary and Joseph came to present the baby Jesus to the Lord as the law required, 28 Simeon was there. He took the child in his arms and praised God.[5] Can you imagine how excited Simeon was to go to the Temple?

As the Spirit told Him, Simeon met Jesus at the right time and place. The life of Simeon shows there is a great reward for being faithful to God. As we are faithful and led by the Spirit, the Lord unfolds a life only He can imagine. It is not a life filled with gold and silver but fulfilling. One day, we will step into eternity, and God promises every person of faith that we will see Him face to face. To learn more about the Spirit’s timing, listen here:
