The war against humanity began in the Garden of Eden when satan tempted Adam and Eve to sin. Satan was once a perfect angel but fell into sin and began a battle against God. Revelation 12:8 And the dragon lost the battle, and he and his angels were forced out of heaven.[1]
After Adam and Eve sinned, their descendants would be born with a sinful nature, and satan’s war against humanity continued. The Lord worked in people’s hearts to call them back, but they became more sinful over time. Lurking in the background of the growing violence was satan and his fallen angels leading people away from God.
Paul tells us that to persevere in this battle, we must be strong in the Lord and His mighty power and put on the full armor of God. Ephesians 6:12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Satan Works to Contaminate Humanity
Immediately after the fall, God gave a glimpse of the coming Savior, although it would be thousands of years away. Genesis 3:15 And I will cause hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will strike your head, and you will strike his heel. [3] This prophetic verse says satan will bruise the Savior, but Jesus will crush his head and defeat him. This happened on the cross
Satan would try to stop the Savior from coming with a devious attack that sounds like science fiction. Genesis 6:1When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, 2 the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose.[4]
Who are the sons of God? The phrase “The sons of God” clearly refers to angelic creatures when it is used in three other places in the Old Testament (Job 1:6, 2:1, and 38:7). In rebellion against God, these fallen angels produced a mixed angelic/human race called Nephilim. This race of beings resulted in extreme growth in wickedness and contamination of humanity with these fallen creatures.
Nothing Will Thwart God’s Plan
Genesis 6:9 describes Noah as blameless in his generation. The Hebrew word means he was righteous and free from blemish, and it is also used to describe an animal fit for sacrifice. Being free from blemish indicates that the Nephilim did not contaminate Noah’s bloodline.
When God saved Noah and his family, it made way for God’s perfect plan for our Savior Jesus to be born. Satan’s plan to thwart the bloodline of Christ did not prevail. The Lord is at work in all things to restore fallen humanity in a relationship with Him. What fantastic news.
