The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Have you ever thought about finding favor in God’s eyes? The word ‘favor’ is used in various ways throughout the Bible. It can mean grace and acceptance, but in this context, it is the state of favorable regard.[1]

Trying to earn God’s favor feels like running a long race without a finish line, climbing a never-ending mountain, or swimming with no end. Such attempts to work our way to God are draining and futile because we can never be good enough to earn His acceptance.

While God commanded all the earth to be cleansed by the flood, He found one man with whom to begin again. Noah didn’t earn grace; he found it. No one earns grace, but we can all find it.[2]

Noah Found Favor in God’s Eyes

This favor changed Noah’s destiny. Genesis 6:The Lord observed the extent of human wickedness on the earth, and he saw that everything they thought or imagined was consistently and totally evil. So the Lord was sorry he had ever made them and put them on the earth. It broke his heart. And the Lord said, “I will wipe this human race I have created from the face of the earth. Yes, and I will destroy every living thing—all the people, the large animals, the small animals that scurry along the ground, and even the birds of the sky. I am sorry I ever made them.” But Noah found favor with the Lord. [3]

Noah lived in the Old Testament era and was alive before and after the worldwide flood. The Lord brought the flood on the earth because humanity was so sinful and restarted with righteous Noah. The Lord destroyed the wicked but showed Noah and his family mercy. As you read this, remember that you are a descendant of Noah. When the Lord saved him, He also saved you.

How Will Finding Favor in God’s Eyes Change Your Destiny?

Having and growing in God’s favor is a journey of faith. It begins when we place our faith in Jesus because we can’t please the Lord without faith. As we respond to the Holy Spirit, He leads us to spend more time with God. When we obey those promptings, we develop a relationship with God and become attentive to recognizing His voice.

Jesus gives us insight. John 10:27My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.[4] As the Lord molds and shapes us, we become a different person. We still will sin, but now we want to repent and continue our relationship with the Lord. Paul tells us that each saved person has received God’s favor. Ephesians 2:8God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.[5] What will you do with the favor the Lord has granted you?
