God remembers us. Why is that so important in our lives and the life of Noah? Genesis 8:1But God remembered Noah and all the beasts and all the livestock that were with him in the ark. And God made a wind blow over the earth, and the waters subsided.[1] This does not mean God had forgotten Noah, but rather that He turned His attention back to him and acted on his behalf.
Flood waters had ravaged the earth, and now it was time for God to dry up the earth so Noah and his family could leave the ark. This reminds us that God sees and remembers us even when we feel forgotten or lost in difficult times. He is aware of our struggles and will act in His perfect timing. This gives us hope in our floods of life and our challenges and trials. Noah had been through a great storm that had rained forty days and forty nights, but now the storm was over. God was with him in the rough waters of the storm and continued to be with him in the calm waters.
We Have Hope as God Remembers
Psalm 139: 2You (God) know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. 3 You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. [2] These verses tell us we are always in God’s thoughts. We are comforted as we realize He knows everything we are going through. God is always with us, even when we feel isolated and alone.
There is no better time to pray to the Lord than when we feel alone. In this special time, we can pour out our hearts to Him. Even in difficult times, we can praise the Lord and give thanks as we pray. James 4:8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.[3]
As we draw near to God, something happens in our relationship. God may have seemed far away, but He never was. Our enemy tells us that God has forgotten us, but the Lord reveals that it is untrue. If you feel far from God today, call out to Him and know that He has always been close to you.
God Remembers Us Because He Loves Us
When God remembered Noah, He also remembered you! When God saved Noah, He also saved you. As Jesus died on the cross, the repentant thief had an amazing request for Jesus. Luke 23:42 And he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” 43 And He said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” [4]
Do you ever feel like God has forgotten you? Do you feel forsaken, unnoticed, or irrelevant? When we do, we need to look to the cross of Jesus, who died for our sins, to receive forgiveness. He remembers us and loves us more than we know.
