Have you ever experienced a new beginning? A new beginning could be starting a new job, getting married, the birth of a child, or another of life’s milestones. When a person comes to faith in Jesus, it is a new beginning. 2 Cor. 5:17Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.[1]
Each day, the Lord allows us to start fresh. Yesterday may not have gone well, but today is a new day. It is a day to try again, to repent of my sins, to forgive others, and to grow in my relationship with God. God is all about restoration and change, no matter how old or young we may be. We may have failed today, but the Lord knows we can begin again tomorrow. There have been many times when I may have gone to bed discouraged because of something I did, but I know it will be better tomorrow.
Noah and Family Had a New Beginning
It would be a new beginning when Noah and family entered the ark. The life they knew and the people they interacted with outside their family were gone. The great flood would bury the communities and cultures of the ancient world, never to rise again.
Genesis 7:23 God blotted out every living thing that was on the face of the ground, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens. They were blotted out from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those who were with him in the ark.[2]
God wiped the slate clean in many ways, and He would begin again with the family of Noah. I cannot imagine the change that Noah and his family would undergo as they started a new life on the ark and after, but it was all for their good.
A New Beginning Means Change
Are you making any changes that seem like a new beginning in your life? New changes can be exciting as well as stressful. Noah’s family may have wondered what life would be like after the flood. When facing new beginnings in life, it always carries with it uncertainty. How will I handle the change? Will I like it? Will it make my life better? These are all questions we may have.
Sometimes, in new beginnings, I have to leave some things behind. A new believer may leave habits and even friends behind that are not helpful. That is difficult! Paul writes about new beginnings of the Christian faith. Romans 6:4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. [3] When we think of the old sinful life as dead and buried, it is a new beginning that gives us a powerful reason to resist sin. With Jesus’s help, we can live a new life.
