The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Humbly asking God questions is something we should not be afraid of. God knows our hearts, and when we come to Him with humility, He understands the motives behind our questions. The angel Gabriel visited a virgin named Mary, who would become the mother of Jesus. Luke 1:28 Gabriel appeared to her and said, “Greetings, favored woman! The Lord is with you!” 29 Confused and disturbed, Mary tried to think what the angel could mean. 30 “Don’t be afraid, Mary,” the angel told her, “for you have found favor with God! 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus.[1]

Having an angel visit must have been surprising to Mary. Then, hearing that God favored her and that she would become pregnant miraculously and give birth to the Son of the Most High must have been overwhelming. Luke 1:34 Mary asked the angel, “But how can this happen? I am a virgin.” [2] The angel continued to answer her question by saying she would become pregnant through the Holy Spirit. With that information, Mary is satisfied and eager to fulfill the angel’s words.

What Questions Do You Have?

As we go through life, we may also have questions for God, but the key is always approaching God with humility. Perhaps you experienced the loss of a loved one or faced another circumstance that didn’t make sense. Sometimes God, in His infinite wisdom, gives us answers, and sometimes He does not give us an answer in this lifetime. Whatever God chooses to do, we must trust that He has our best interests at heart.

A friend was struggling with faith and cried out to God if He was real. To his surprise, the Lord supernaturally revealed Himself. How many parents have heard small children ask the question, “Why?” There is something about growing in faith that makes us reach out to God and ask, “Why?” Asking why often encourages us to think, reflect, or meditate on a specific passage of Scripture, drawing us closer to our Savior.

God is Big Enough for Our Questions

God does not feel threatened by our inquiries. The truth is, God encourages us to ask questions. He loves it when we bring our doubts, fears, and frustrations to Him. Asking questions helps make our faith personal and real. It’s more than just knowing what we believe; it’s also about understanding why we believe it.

Asking questions can guide us toward wisdom and humility. It can be humbling to admit when we don’t know something, but those questions open up new doors to knowledge and understanding that we didn’t have before. God warmly invites your questions. Feel free to ask Him, explore His Holy Word, and embrace wisdom with an open heart.

Proverbs 2:6For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding. [3] Mary’s question to Gabriel gave her additional insight into God’s plan for her life. We can do the same, humbly asking God questions that concern us. To learn more, listen here:
