Do you want to make an impact in the Kingdom of God? Do you want the hear the following words when you enter heaven? ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’ [1] Matthew 25:23.
I know I would like to hear those words when I come before the Lord. If you do also, what should you do as a believer in Jesus? In our story of Philip and the Ethiopian the Holy Spirit gave Philip specific direction. Acts 8:29-31 –The Holy Spirit said to Philip, “Go over and walk along beside the carriage.” 30 Philip ran over and heard the man reading from the prophet Isaiah. Philip asked, “Do you understand what you are reading?” 31 The man replied, “How can I, unless someone instructs me?” And he urged Philip to come up into the carriage and sit with him. [2]
The key to be a faithful servant is to obey. Philip was obedient to what the Holy Spirit was telling him. As a result, he had an amazing effect on the Ethiopian. To grow in obedience, ask the Lord in prayer to help you obey. The Lord loves to answer those types of prayers. Why is this so important? We often need supernatural help to follow the Lord because we are selfish people. As we look back, we are glad we were obedient, but at the time we sometimes struggle.
In John 14:23, Jesus speaks to the connection between love and obedience. Jesus replied, “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them.[3]
When we obey the Lord, it changes us and those around us.
