The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Recently we moved to a new community and in the process observed how God goes before you. My wife and I sat down and made a list of how God had seemed to prepare the way for this move. We “found” a great realtor, a house with wonderful neighbors, a welcoming church, and new friends. This all happened despite the shutdown of the pestilence.

What does this tell us about God? I believe the Lord delights going before His children to show us His mercy, grace, character, and patience with us. When we see the Lord’s hand on us, it strengthens our faith and gives us confidence that God, as the Good Shepherd, is with us.

God Went Before Gideon

The Midianites oppressed the nation of Israel for seven years. In answer to the prayers of the people, God raised up Gideon as a mighty warrior. It became obvious that God went before His people to give victory over the enemy.

Judges 7: 21 Each man stood at his position around the camp and watched as all the Midianites rushed around in a panic, shouting as they ran to escape. 22 When the 300 Israelites blew their rams’ horns, the Lord caused the warriors in the camp to fight against each other with their swords. Those who were not killed fled to places as far away as Beth-shittah near Zererah and to the border of Abel-meholah near Tabbath. [1]

The army of Israel only had 300 mean against thousands in the Midianite army. If God had not gone before them, Israel would have faced total defeat. Gideon and Israel learned an important faith lesson. They could trust God. Can you imagine the stories the soldiers told after the Lord had won the battle for them?

God Goes Before You

The Midianite oppression of Israel did not come as a surprise to God as He is in control and knows the way. God, our Father, is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. His presence is the most certain thing we have in our lives and in this world. He went before us and gave His life for us upon the cross. As we place our faith in Him there is nothing that we can’t overcome as He walks with us through life.Deut. 31:Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.” [2]

When we are battling with an issue in our lives, facing something new or daunting, we can be assured that God is with us. Nothing is a surprise to God, He is before and behind us. Perhaps political chaos or disease is troubling you. Know that God is with you on the journey. Follow His voice and guidance. He’ll make your paths straight and show you the way and will do the same for those you love.

If your heart is feeling uncertain and anxious, let the truth of today’s scriptures settle you and bring you to a safe place in the Lord. You’re surrounded by His presence and He’ll take care of you and those you love. Let Him fill you with this love and truth.
