The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Have you ever thought about the blessing of time? God gives each of us the same amount of time each day. Yet what we do with our time impacts ourselves and those around us. In the time given us, we can be loved and love others and be a difference-maker in the lives of others. A child often wishes their parents would spend more time with them because relationships are about spending time together. I had several role models in my life; the more time I spent with them, the more significant their impact on me. Who in your life spent time with you and blessed you?

God Created Time

In Genesis, we learn that God created time as part of His creation. God is not in time like we are and made time especially for humankind. The first mention of time is in the creation story. Genesis 1:5God called the light “day” and the darkness “night.” And evening passed and morning came, marking the first day. [1]

God established a rhythm of time which is the rotation of the earth every twenty-four hours. The Lord also set the week, seven days, based on the days of creation and a day of Sabbath rest. The Lord knew that man needed time to rest to remain physically and spiritually healthy. On each day of creation, the Lord was creative, and on the seventh day, the Lord rested. The Lord did not need rest like we do but wanted to establish a pattern of working from rest for our lives.

Spending Time with the Lord

When we worship the Lord or spend time with Him in His Word, it changes our lives. Romans 10:17So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ.[2] God’s word is so powerful that spending time with Him can draw us to faith and transform our lives.

The Apostle Paul was wrongly imprisoned in Philippi but used his time there to benefit those around him. Acts 16:25 Around midnight, Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening.[3] The text tells us the prisoners were listening because Paul and Silas chose to spend their time singing and praising the Lord. Think of the impact this made on these prisoners.

Reflect on the people you could impact when you are the salt and the light for Jesus. We don’t know how much time we have on this earth, but we can be thankful for every moment the Lord has given us. We can praise the Lord that, just at the right time, He stepped into time to rescue us from our sins.
