We live in a world that is bombarded by falsehoods and half-truths. Our enemy satan is on a mission to deceive as many people as possible. He wants to lead them away from the Lord and into hell itself. When Eve fell into sin in Genesis three, she said she was deceived. Satan is a master of deception and has studied mankind for thousands of years and knows our weaknesses. Satan and his deceivers tell people over and over there are many ways to heaven.
Jesus tells us in John 14:6 three different things that are very important. I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.[1]
- Jesus – I am the way. There is only one way to heaven and that is through Jesus. He is also described as the door or the gate. John 10:9 I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. [2]
- Jesus – I am the truth. John 17:17 Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth.[3]
- Satan is a liar – John 8:44 For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies. [4]
- In Jesus is life. John 10: 10 The thief’s (satan) purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My (Jesus) purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.
In our story of Moses, the door of the house played an important role in Passover.
Exodus 12:6 “Take special care of this chosen animal until the evening of the fourteenth day of this first month. Then the whole assembly of the community of Israel must slaughter their lamb or young goat at twilight. 7 They are to take some of the blood and smear it on the sides and top of the doorframes of the houses where they eat the animal. 8 That same night they must roast the meat over a fire and eat it along with bitter salad greens and bread made without yeast. 9 Do not eat any of the meat raw or boiled in water. The whole animal—including the head, legs, and internal organs—must be roasted over a fire. 10 Do not leave any of it until the next morning. Burn whatever is not eaten before morning.
11 “These are your instructions for eating this meal: Be fully dressed, wear your sandals, and carry your walking stick in your hand. Eat the meal with urgency, for this is the Lord’s Passover. 12 On that night I will pass through the land of Egypt and strike down every firstborn son and firstborn male animal in the land of Egypt. I will execute judgment against all the gods of Egypt, for I am the Lord! 13 But the blood on your doorposts will serve as a sign, marking the houses where you are staying. When I see the blood, I will pass over you. This plague of death will not touch you when I strike the land of Egypt. [5]
Where was the blood to be placed? On the door frame. This is where the people would go in and out of the house. Also, they were not to leave the house on the night of Passover. To be safe they needed to go through the door and stay in the house.
Our ministry loves to connect with our readers. If you have a prayer request or a comment, please let us know. Also, if this devotional helped you, please share it with others. To come to faith, we must go through the door. That door is Jesus. Thank you, Jesus you made a way for us, to come to you!
