The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

It's Time to Begin the Book of Joshua {Intro and Resources ...

Have you ever considered how God gives wisdom and insight? Have you ever prayed for wisdom? Perhaps you were in a difficult situation and didn’t know which way to turn. Many times, we must be desperate before we look to the Lord for help. Often, we exhaust all earthly avenues of help before we finally ask God for insight and wisdom.

Several years ago, our oldest daughter was struggling in school. We lived in a small community and there was only one school. What could we do? What should we do? It didn’t take long to run out of ideas. We didn’t have any answers and had no clue what to do. We did, however, know God could help us. After a time of prayer, the Lord showed us an online school. We enrolled our daughter, and it was life changing for her. We learned through this experience that God is faithful; He will guide us if we only ask.

God Gives Wisdom to Rahab

Rahab was a prostitute who lived in Jericho. Jericho was an idol worshipping city that God would destroy so that His people could possess the promised land. Ironically, it was a woman of ill repute who was aware of the true God. She was aware of the miracle of the parting of the Red Sea forty years earlier. She knew how God had saved His people and drowned the Egyptian army. Her heart was open to God and He gave her other spiritual insights.

Joshua 2: 10 For we have heard how the Lord made a dry path for you through the Red Sea when you left Egypt. And we know what you did to Sihon and Og, the two Amorite kings east of the Jordan River, whose people you completely destroyed. 11 No wonder our hearts have melted in fear! No one has the courage to fight after hearing such things. For the Lord your God is the supreme God of the heavens above and the earth below. [1]

Rahab realized that God was Lord of heaven and earth. She had a right fear of God and it changed her life.

God Desires to Give Wisdom and Insight

As I write this, we are amid a pandemic. Many are fearful and unsure of what to do. The pandemic has made us weary and taken a toll mentally, physically, and emotionally. What do we do when we don’t know how to go forward?

James 1:If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.[2]

God won’t belittle you for asking for help. It is His desire to give wisdom and insight to those who are willing to ask. Have you asked God to give you wisdom on how to handle the pandemic or some other difficulty in your life? Wisdom and insight may not make the problem go away instantly, but God will help you work through the situation as you rely on Him.

Prayer for Wisdom

Lord, I’m here today with open hands and an open heart, ready to depend on You to help me through the day. Help me come to you for guidance, strength, provision and protection. As I face tough choices and hard situations, help me remember that I am Your child and Your representative to the world around me. Help me live today in a way that brings honor to Your holy name. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.[3]
