The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Don't let sin keep you down, cast your burdens on Him ...

Have you ever thought about running the race God has for you? This is not an ordinary race like a marked course a cross country runner would run, but the plan that the Lord has for your life. For most of my life I never gave much thought about God’s plan for me. As I began to grow in faith, God’s word and the work of the Holy Spirit made me aware that God had a plan for my life.

Perhaps the Lord is using this devotion today to make you aware that He has an amazing plan for your life. If this is happening to you right now you are blessed because God is intervening in your life. He is the divine intruder.

Believers are Called to Run the Race God has for Them

After giving us the faith hall of fame, the writer of Hebrews goes onto speak of race that God has for us. Hebrews 12:1Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.[1]

The greatest obstacle to running the race God has for us is our own sin. Sin weighs us down and no runner wants to run a race with a backpack of rocks. This is what sin does and why the Lord calls us to confess our sins and turn away from our evil ways and turn to Him. When we take our sins to the foot of the cross, we empty the backpack of sins that weighs us down and frees us to move forward in faith.

Are you weighed down today? Is the Lord prompting you to confess your sins to Him so you can be free of their entanglement? If so, talk to the Lord right now. He is waiting patiently with open arms to speak to you.

Runners Keep Their Eyes on Jesus

The best way to run the race the Lord has marked out for you is to keep your eyes on Jesus. When we look up to Jesus our focus is on Him and not ourselves. Through His Word and the work of the Holy Spirit, the Lord directs our life’s path. Scripture gives insight to the importance of looking to the Lord along our race of life. Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. [2]

If you have wondered off the path just look up and let the Lord redirect you! He indeed is our champion who really does initiate and perfect our faith. Running the race God has for you can only be done as you focus on Jesus.
