The Lord tells us we should be interceding for others. Perhaps someone has interceded for you. How did that make you feel? You may not realize it, but the Lord Jesus intercedes for you before His Father. Paul writes in Romans 8:34 “Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.” [1]
Wow! That is an amazing verse that is encouraging us along the journey of life. Without the intercession of Jesus where would we be?
Moses Interceded for the Israelites
The Lord told the Israelites He was with them and they could take the promised land, but they chose to believe the ten spies who thought the giants in the land could not be overcome. The Lord was so angry He told Moses he wanted to wipe the nation out and start a new nation with him. Moses knew the people had sinned and he went to God to intercede on their behalf so they would not be wiped out.
Numbers 14:17 And now, please let the power of the Lord be great as you have promised, saying, 18 ‘The LORD is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, forgiving iniquity and transgression, but he will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, to the third and the fourth generation.’ 19 Please pardon the iniquity of this people, according to the greatness of your steadfast love, just as you have forgiven this people, from Egypt until now.” [2]
Because Moses interceded, the Lord forgave the Israelites.
The Lord Wants You to Intercede for Others
Interceding for others is the will of God. To be an intercessor is simply to have the desire to do so. As we pray and listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit the Lord will direct your prayers of intercession. James gives us amazing insight into power of our prayers. James 5:16The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. [3]
Your prayers can make the difference in the life of others. How many people’s lives were changed today or went to heaven because someone interceded for them?
Prayer
Lord, help me to better hear Your voice and be a tool in Your hand to intercede for others. Open my eyes Lord and help me see the people around me that need to be lifted up to Your throne of grace. Amen.
