Why does God give revelation? Do you desire revelation from the Lord? Pray and ask the Lord! He loves to hear from His children.
For several years I was involved in a weekly discipleship study at a local manufacturing facility. The people who were involved were just beginning their spiritual journey with the Lord. Although they had little to no Biblical background, I was always astounded by their insights as we went through the study. Some insights were so profound you would have thought they came from a seasoned theologian.
Why would the Lord give them such insight? I believe the Lord wants to give us insight as we seek Him. He has more for us! It also is a testimony that the Lord is at work in a person’s life. When a person receives that kind of insight you know it had to come from the Lord. It is amazing to see God at work in such a way.
God Gives Us Revelation to Change Our Thinking
Peter viewed the Gentiles as unclean, but the Lord gave him revelation that was not true. Acts 10:28 Peter told them, “You know it is against our laws for a Jewish man to enter a Gentile home like this or to associate with you. But God has shown me that I should no longer think of anyone as impure or unclean. [1]
The Lord knew the only way He was going to change Peter’s view of Gentiles was personal revelation. God was doing new things in the life of Peter and needed him to communicate the Good News of Jesus to a group of Gentiles.
God Gives Us Revelation to Accomplish His Plan
Over the years I have received several revelations from the Lord. Sometimes I have received revelation as an answer to prayer and other times the Lord has broken into my life with divine guidance. Each time I followed the Lord’s guidance good things happened as a result of following His plan. Most of the time that meant letting go of my plan.
As God’s plan unfolded in my life, I can clearly thank the Lord because it was His idea. Writing these devotions came by the Lord putting this on my heart. God must have a sense of humor, because writing is something I always struggled with. God had more for me and that included writing devotions.
God Gives Revelation to Help Us Grow Spiritually
All parents want their children to grow in wisdom, especially our heavenly Father. We may not understand a passage of Scripture or what to do in a certain situation, but God does. When we pray for wisdom and God gives us insight, only the Lord gets the credit for such understanding.
As we grow in understanding of Scripture it begins to transform us as. Romans 12:2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. [2]
