The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Abraham Joshua Heschel Quote: "We are closer to God when ...

When we have questions for God, we may think that it is disrespectful to ask Him. Sometimes from our perspective we don’t understand why the Lord does what He does or why things happen. If we come in faith and respect, God is open to answering our questions.

Hebrews 11:6 And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.[1] We have a limited intellect as humans, but God is all knowing. Sometimes we simply must trust that God knows best.

Mary Questioned the Angel in Faith

Luke 1:28Gabriel appeared to her and said, “Greetings, favored woman! The Lord is with you!” [2] As a deep person of faith, she had a question for Gabriel not out of unbelief but for clarification

Luke 1:30 Don’t be afraid, Mary,” the angel told her, “for you have found favor with God! 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. 32 He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David. 33 And he will reign over Israel forever; his Kingdom will never end!” 34 Mary asked the angel, “But how can this happen? I am a virgin.” [3]

The Angel Answered Mary

Luke 1:35 The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God.[4]Place yourself in Mary’s sandals. This had never happened before, but when given an explanation she was quick to believe something that seemed impossible. Luke 1:38 Mary responded, “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.” And then the angel left her.[5]

What Should I do When I have Questions for the Lord?

When we have questions for God, we can always go to Him in prayer to seek understanding and wisdom. Sometimes, the answer we receive is just to trust the Lord that He knows what is best. Other times the Lord may direct us to a passage in the Bible for explanation or give us insight by the Holy Spirit.

Whatever way the Lord chooses to answer, we must move forward in faith. The Lord will guide us as we look to Him. Proverbs 3:Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. [6]
