The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Everyday with the Stricklands: Making Memories during ...

The fact that Jesus will save us from our sin implies we can’t save ourselves. This points out our dependence on God. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. [1] The Lord extends the free gift of salvation to anyone who will receive it. Have you received the Lord’s free gift of salvation?

When we place our faith in Jesus the path of our life here and in eternity changes. Believers in Jesus will one day go to heaven and live with the Lord for all eternity. Jesus came into this world for the express purpose of rescuing us so that we can be a child of the King.

The Name of Jesus Means the Lord Saves

No matter how good we are, we can’t eliminate our alienation from God. Only Jesus can do that. Jesus didn’t come to help people save themselves; He, and He alone, came to be their Savior from the power and penalty of sin.[2]

Joseph Was Told by the Angel to Name the Child Jesus

While Joseph was contemplating breaking his engagement over Mary’s pregnancy, an angel came to him to give him understanding. Matthew 1:20 As he considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. “Joseph, son of David,” the angel said, “do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit. 21 And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” [3]

Jesus Fills our need to be Rescued and Saved

To save is to rescue and as humans we cannot save ourselves from our sin. We need a Savior. Jesus tells the parable of a lost sheep that needs rescuing. Luke 15: So Jesus told them this story: “If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them gets lost, what will he do? Won’t he leave the ninety-nine others in the wilderness and go to search for the one that is lost until he finds it? [4]

We are like the lost sheep, and we need Jesus to rescue us. The Lord not only paid the price for sins on the cross, but he also searches for us and draws us to faith. That is the amazing work of Jesus our Savior.

Sinner’s Prayer

Lord Jesus, for too long I’ve kept you out of my life. I know that I am a sinner and that I cannot save myself. No longer will I close the door when I hear you knocking. By faith I gratefully receive your gift of salvation. I am ready to trust you as my Lord and Savior. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for coming to earth. I believe you are the Son of God who died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead on the third day. Thank you for bearing my sins and giving me the gift of eternal life. I believe your words are true. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus, and be my Savior. Amen. [5]
