The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

One of my friends emailed me an obituary of a mutual high school friend. This reminded me how short life is. But Jesus has more for us. What will we do with the life the Lord has given us? Will we become followers of Jesus or choose a path away from the Lord? Only the Lord knows what is in our hearts as we pass into eternity.

God has a great plan for each of us. Psalm 139:16You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.[1] How many people miss what God has for them as they pursue their dreams? In contrast, The Spirit leads others to seek God’s dreams.

God had More for the Deaf Man

Friends brought a deaf man with a speech impediment to Jesus. They begged Jesus to lay a hand on their friend and heal him. Mark 7:33 Jesus led him away from the crowd so they could be alone. He put his fingers into the man’s ears. Then, spitting on his own fingers, he touched the man’s tongue. 34 Looking up to heaven, he sighed and said, “Ephphatha,” which means, “Be opened!” 35 Instantly the man could hear perfectly, and his tongue was freed so he could speak plainly! [2]

What a miracle! But how did this miracle affect the man’s spiritual walk? Did he praise Jesus? Did he become a follower of Jesus? The Bible does not say. The Bible does say God has unique plans for our life, but we need to seek Him and bend our will to His.

God Has a Plan for Your Life

I was an adult before I realized that God had a plan for my life. My teachers urged me to follow my dreams, but that is the world’s message, not God’s. Paul talks about God’s plan for our lives. Romans 12:Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. [3]

God’s plan for our life unfolds as we come to Him in faith and then begin to pray and seek His will. As we do, God unfolds a beautiful and tailored plan for the skills and abilities He has given each of us.

Trust and Listen

I am going to be honest with you. Sometimes our plans don’t match up with God’s plan. What do we do then? I have been at that point in my life. We must trust that His plan is better, no matter how difficult it may be. God designs His plans to be fulfilling. This is something the world does not offer. When we place our faith and trust in Jesus, He guides us with great power to fulfill His destiny for us.
