The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Jesus’ power to heal our bodies is evidence of His authority. Seven years ago, I was getting arthritis in my index fingers. One day four church members laid hands on my hands and prayed that Jesus would heal my fingers of arthritis. After they prayed, ninety percent of the discomfort went away. The remaining ten percent went away in the next year, and the problem has not reoccurred. This was a personal encounter I had with the healing power of Jesus.

Jesus Heals the Deaf Man and Enables Him to Speak Clearly

As Jesus went about His ministry, He returned across the Sea of Galilee to a Gentile region called the Decapolis. Mark 7:32 A deaf man with a speech impediment was brought to him, and the people begged Jesus to lay his hands on the man to heal him. 33 Jesus led him away from the crowd so they could be alone. He put his fingers into the man’s ears. Then, spitting on his own fingers, he touched the man’s tongue. 34 Looking up to heaven, he sighed and said, “Ephphatha,” which means, “Be opened!” 35 Instantly the man could hear perfectly, and his tongue was freed so he could speak plainly! [1]

Jesus plainly showed His power to heal our bodies. The man could hear, and his speech impediment was also gone. Whatever he had lacked in learning to speak correctly, Jesus fixed at the same time He healed his ears.

Bring Your Prayers to the Throne of Grace

We live in a sin-tainted world, which means our bodies are subject to disease and eventually wear out. Death will come to all of us, but we experience weakness in our bodies before that. The deaf man in our story could have been born that way or suffered from ear infections that robbed him of hearing. Whether we suffer from a common cold, a virus, or cancer, we all face physical illness in our lives.

Hebrews 4:16 So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. [2] Although our bodies may suffer an illness, Jesus has the power and authority to heal us. If you need healing, approach the throne of Jesus with faith and expectancy, believing Jesus heals.

One day each of us will pass into eternity, but that does not mean Jesus is not interested in healing us today. Confidently call out to Jesus in prayer to bring healing to your life. In God’s wisdom, He will heal us His way and His timing, whatever that may be. Whether the Lord heals us or not, we can walk in faith, knowing the Lord has a plan for us beyond what we can see in this world. To hear about Jesus’ power to heal our bodies, listen here:
