The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Teamwork helps us overcome. I have experienced it many times. Where has teamwork in your life made a difference? Life is full of examples of teamwork, beginning with the first couple God created. In Genesis 2:18, the Lord knew that Adam needed a partner and created Eve. Genesis 2:18 Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.”[1]

When God created Adam and Eve, they were without sin. Even in a perfect world, it was important not to do things alone. We often get discouraged and worn out when we are alone. Thus, in these times, we may give up. There is greater strength, insight, and encouragement when we work together. Two draft horses pulling together can pull three times as much as one horse. There is something that happens when people work together.

Jesus Sent Two Disciples to Get a Donkey

Zachariah 9:Rejoice, O people of Zion! Shout in triumph, O people of Jerusalem! Look, your King is coming to you. He is righteous and victorious, yet he is humble, riding on a donkey— riding on a donkey’s colt. [2] Jesus needed to ride on a donkey into Jerusalem to fulfill the prophecy. Thus, He sent out two of  His disciples to get a donkey.

Mark 11:1As Jesus and his disciples approached Jerusalem; they came to the towns of Bethphage and Bethany on the Mount of Olives. Jesus sent two of them on ahead. “Go into that village over there,” he told them. “As soon as you enter it, you will see a young donkey tied there that no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks, ‘What are you doing?’ just say, ‘The Lord needs it and will return it soon.’ ” The two disciples left and found the colt standing in the street, tied outside the front door.[3]

Two are Better than One

Jesus sent out the two disciples to get the donkey for mutual support. When two go together, it strengthens their faith. Teamwork prevents burnout and gives support and encouragement along the journey of faith.

Solomon gives insight. Ecclesiastes 4:Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed… 12 A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer.[4] Unique energy comes from being part of a shared mission, whether that mission is to retrieve a donkey or share the good news with others. Jesus calls us to be one, working together for His glory. When we say yes to Jesus, we are clothed with the new life in Christ to carry out His mission together as the body of Christ.
