God is working unseen when we don’t realize it. I discovered this as I began to study Scripture. When I was ten years old, a young pastor came to our congregation that would be very significant in my life. Thirty-one years passed before I became a pastor, yet the Lord worked in my life long before I felt called into ministry.
You may have had a similar experience where God was at work in your life, but you did not realize it until much later. Faith-building occurs when we realize how much the Lord has worked in our lives. John 13:7 Jesus replied, “You don’t understand now what I am doing, but someday you will.” [1]
God Was Working in Joseph’s Life
Joseph found himself falsely imprisoned through unfair circumstances, but the Lord was always working in the background to fulfill His plans for Joseph’s life. Unbeknown to Joseph, the Lord would bring a very significant person into his life that would bring him from prison to the number two person in Egypt. Joseph had no clue about the plans God had for him. Even after the cupbearer returned to his job, it took several years for him to tell Pharaoh about Joseph’s ability to interpret dreams. This would not have been possible if God had not been at work in the life of Joseph.
Genesis 40:1Sometime later, Pharaoh’s chief cupbearer and chief baker offended their royal master. 2 Pharaoh became angry with these two officials, 3 and he put them in the prison where Joseph was, in the palace of the captain of the guard. 4 They remained in prison for quite some time, and the captain of the guard assigned them to Joseph, who looked after them. 5 While they were in prison, Pharaoh’s cupbearer and baker each had a dream one night, and each dream had its own meaning.[2]
The Lord is at Work in Your Life
Our limited vision does not allow us to see how the Lord works behind the scenes in our lives, but we can trust that He is. It may be in those difficult times when we struggle with circumstances that He is working the most.
The chaos of the past two years has been trying times for many. Rest assured that God works to bring about His plans in your life and the world. As people, we simply must walk by faith that the Lord is at work. Springtime is always a great reminder to me that God has been at work. These seasons remind us that God is always at work, no matter what I see with my eyes.
