The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

God speaks to ordinary people, which includes people like you and me. The Lord desires to speak to you because He wants to involve you in His work, encourage you, and guide you. In the Bible, the Lord speaks to various people doing ordinary things, from shepherds to prophets. Sometimes we look for an experience like Moses at the burning bush and do not realize God communicates in numerous ways to everyday people.

The Lord most often speaks to his children as they read Scripture. Have you read God’s word? The Holy Spirit can highlight a passage as you read the Bible. The Lord can also speak through the work of the Holy Spirit, dreams, visions, people, circumstances, angels, and other ways. The Lord speaks to us because He wants to have a relationship with us.

God Communicates Through Angels

The night Jesus was born in Bethlehem, the shepherds were going about their daily work. The Shepherds were just simple people of faith, yet the Lord sent an angel to them to announce the birth of the Savior.

Luke 2:That night, there were shepherds staying in the fields nearby, guarding their flocks of sheep. Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lord’s glory surrounded them. They were terrified, 10 but the angel reassured them. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. 11 The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David![1]  By announcing the birth of the Savior to shepherds, God showed the Savior is for everyone, no matter their station in society.

The Lord Loves to Communicate to You

The Lord loves communicating with us and enjoys it when we speak to Him through our prayers and worship. There is something special about a toddler praying to the Lord. Even small children can enjoy listening to Bible stories. Some of my first memories are of my mother reading the Bible to me.

As you read God’s word, pray that He would speak to you clearly and that your heart would be receptive to His guidance. Like the shepherds, sometimes God breaks into our lives to communicate when we are going about our daily tasks. God speaks in His timing in order to fulfill what He is doing in our life.
