The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

The shepherds did not expect the message, “the Messiah has come.” The Lord loves to break into our lives, and this must have been an incredible announcement. All of heaven was rejoicing at the coming of Jesus! The prophets, such as Isaiah, talked about the appearance of the Messiah hundreds of years before it happened. Isaiah 7:14 All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’).[1]

The Messiah’s Coming Brings Excitement

Although the shepherds were not Biblical scholars, they knew in their hearts that when the Messiah came, it would change everything. Can you imagine their excitement when they heard this fantastic news? Luke 2:11 The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! 12 And you will recognize him by this sign: You will find a baby wrapped snugly in strips of cloth, lying in a manger.” [2]

When Jesus comes into a person’s life as their Savior is also a time of great excitement. When you become a believer in Jesus, your life will never be the same. In John 3:3, Jesus speaks to Nicodemus about being born again. Jesus is not talking about a physical rebirth to Nicodemus but a spiritual one.

The Messiah Wants to Come into Each Person’s Heart

The most significant event in human history occurred when Jesus was born. For centuries the Jewish people had awaited the Savior, and when He came, God announced His birth to unassuming shepherds. The good news of Jesus comes to people of every stratum of society, including the downtrodden and outcasts. Jesus comes to every heart that will humbly ask Him to be their Savior. Revelation 3:20 “Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.[3]

Prayer to Invite the Messiah into Your Heart

Lord Jesus, I’ve kept you out of my life for too long. I know I am a sinner and cannot save myself. No longer will I close the door when I hear you knocking. By faith, I gratefully receive your gift of salvation. I am ready to trust you as my Lord and Savior. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for coming to earth. I believe you are the Son of God who died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead on the third day. Thank you for bearing my sins and giving me the gift of eternal life. I believe your words are true. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus, and be my Savior. Amen. [4]
