The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Which voice are you listening to? This significantly impacts the direction you take in your life, including eternity. One of my friends was in a severe accident and was on the point of death when he said two voices were in his mind. One voice told him to die as he was going to heaven anyway. The other voice said if you want to live, it will be a tough fight. He chose to listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit and fought to live and recover.

In life, many voices are always trying to give us direction, but not all voices will lead you down the path the Lord wants you to travel. The Lord is always there guiding us, but will our hearts be open to His advice? The Lord’s direction can come through His word, the work of the Holy Spirit, dreams, and visions. God can also work through another person or in a unique way of His choosing. Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.[1]

The Israelites Were Listening to the Wrong Voice

The Israelites were taken into captivity in Babylon due to their sin, but God had not forgotten about them. When the people began to listen to the wrong voice, the Lord intervened through Jeremiah, the prophet, to bring truth into their lives.

Jeremiah 29:This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says: “Do not let your prophets and fortune-tellers who are with you in the land of Babylon trick you. Do not listen to their dreams, because they are telling you lies in my name. I have not sent them,” says the Lord. [2] When the prophet Jonah headed in the wrong direction, the Lord sent a storm to correct him. When Adam and Eve listened to the serpent’s voice and fell into sin, the Lord corrected them, bringing consequences and mercy. Peter denied knowing Jesus and realized he had listened to the wrong voice. The common theme is God continually intervenes in our life, especially if we are going in the wrong direction.

Listening to the Voice of the Lord

As we grow in our relationship with the Lord, His voice is easier to hear and understand His voice. Proverbs 8:17 I (God) love all who love me. Those who search will surely find me. [3] Make up your mind to seek and listen to the Lord’s voice, and you will be surprised as you will hear Him.
