The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

You are drawn to God’s word by the Holy Spirit. Sometimes when people are desperate, they are drawn to God’s word. A Bible may have laid dormant in a home or hotel room is now opened, declaring the Good News of Jesus. At other times believers are comforted by His word during trial. The Lord draws us to His word to do many things in people’s lives worldwide that inspire and change lives.

How has the Lord shaped you by His word? How did you first meet the God of the Bible?      I remember my mother reading to me from a children’s picture Bible when I was a child. She read these stories so many times the pages became tattered, but I can still picture many of them in my mind. These early experiences instilled a love of God’s Word in my heart. Romans 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ.[1] The impact of God’s word draws people to faith and transforms lives because He is the potter, and we are the clay.

Jesus’ Words Drew the People to Him

Think for a moment what it would have been like to hear that Jesus was nearby. You would seek Him out to listen to His words. You may go to see Jesus out of curiosity, but listening to His words changes something on the inside. As the fifth chapter of Luke unfolds, it is the story of the call of Peter, but it doesn’t start with him, but the people anxious to hear Jesus.

Luke 5:1 One day as Jesus was preaching on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, great crowds pressed in on him to listen to the word of God.[2] Like soil prepared for seeds, the people’s hearts were ready for God’s words. Our text doesn’t say how God’s word affected them, but good things happen when we desire to hear God’s word.

The Power of God’s Word

Eternal life and God’s word are two things that will last forever. Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth will disappear, but my (Jesus) words will never disappear. [3] We live in an era where the culture disregards God’s word, but that does not make it less powerful. The Bible tells us that God spoke the world into existence and created everything from nothing. That is the power of God’s words.

Today as you read this, I don’t know your situation, but the Lord does. As you listen to the still, small voice of the Holy Spirit, He will speak to you through His word. Your need may be comfort, encouragement, instruction, forgiveness, grief, brokenness, or something else, but the Lord’s word is always there to meet your needs. Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. [4]
