The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Our future is in God’s hands because our hope is in Him. Most people may think about the future and make plans, but that usually extends only to this lifetime. Our lives are finite, and we don’t know what tomorrow will hold. Proverbs 27:1 Don’t brag about tomorrow since you don’t know what the day will bring. [1]

When you place your faith in Jesus and begin to dwell on the things of God, it changes the way you think, as Paul writes in Romans 12:2. As believers, we are not citizens of the earth we live on, but citizens of heaven. In essence, we are pilgrims passing through a foreign country. Philippians 3:20 But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior.[2]

Rejoice in Our Confident Hope

Our confident hope as believers in Jesus is the Lord Himself. Romans 12:12 Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.[3] Our life in this world is temporary, although we sometimes live like it will continue forever. James brings us back to reality. James 4:14 How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. [4]

Although life on this earth may be brief when we place our faith in Jesus, we have eternal life. We may be ill or even dying, but we can rejoice that our life here is only the beginning of what the Lord has for us. Our confident hope in Jesus enables us to be patient during the storms of life and keep speaking to the Lord in prayer.

God Keeps His Promises

Paul tells us we can have confident hope in the Lord because He always keeps His promises. We may break our promises and disappoint others, but God is unlike us. John 3:16 is the Gospel in a nutshell, where the Lord promises that everyone who trusts Him will have eternal life. 16 “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. [5]

My circumstances may not change, but as I look up to my Savior Jesus, I can rejoice that He loves me and gave His life for me to rescue me. There isn’t a moment when the Lord is not thinking about and watching over believers. Psalm 33:18 But the Lord watches over those who fear him, those who rely on his unfailing love. [6]
