The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Remembering Christian Foundations and putting them into practice is essential in moving forward in the faith. There was a time when God was a low priority for me, but in His mercy, He called me back to Himself to repair my tattered foundation. Only in hindsight did I realize how merciful God was. Years later, I realized how important a strong foundation of faith is.

One of my friends went through a difficult time when a newborn child was severely handicapped and lived less than a year. The couple’s strong foundation in the Christian faith enabled them to walk through this storm. There may have been storms in your life you experienced where your faith in Jesus was instrumental in a difficult time. In addition, those who have experienced such storms can be a wonderful encouragement for others facing similar difficulties.

Jesus is Our Foundation

When a believer takes communion and receives the wine and the bread, Jesus says, Do this in remembrance of me.”[1] 2 Cor. 11:24. Jesus wants us always to remember that our salvation is free but cost Him His life. Our sins were poured out on Jesus, and He took the punishment we deserved upon Himself. Going to heaven as believers is only possible because of what Jesus has done. There will come a day when we will see Jesus face-to-face in heaven. Seeing the scars on His hands and feet will remind us how we got there. Remembering what Jesus has done fills our hearts with gratitude and joy for what He did for us.

Practice the Fundamentals of the Faith

As Peter wrote his letter, he wanted each person of faith to continue on their journey and not be distracted. 2 Peter 1:12 Therefore, I will always remind you about these things—even though you already know them and are standing firm in the truth you have been taught. 13 And it is only right that I should keep on reminding you as long as I live. 14 For our Lord Jesus Christ has shown me that I must soon leave this earthly life, 15 so I will work hard to make sure you always remember these things after I am gone.[2]

As weak human beings, we soon forget. But Peter inspires us to stay focused on the Lord and look to Him as He guides us through life. When I pray, it is a conversation with the Lord. I can be honest with God, sharing my needs and praising Him. When I read the Bible, the Lord transforms me in ways I don’t understand as He communicates to me. Worship brings me closer to God and brings spiritual breakthroughs into my life. Meditating on God’s Word allows His Word to sink deep into my heart like rain on dry ground. Is the Lord calling you to renew your time with Him? If so, don’t wait!
