The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Living in an uncertain future is nothing new; perhaps this is what you sense in your life. I remember being in the World War I museum in Kansas City as we listened to the opening video. The uncertain times in the video leading up to the war sounded strangely familiar. There was unrest surrounding the world’s major powers, which made for uncertain times. In today’s world, we live in very uncertain times and seem to be uncharted waters.

There appears to be a great battle in the spiritual realm that manifests itself in the physical. The recent pandemic, along with ongoing political problems throughout the world, has created significant instability. But during this, the Lord is the Light in the darkness. Psalm 27:1 The Lord is my light and my salvation— so why should I be afraid? The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble? [1]

The Cross Looked like Darkness

As Jesus carried His cross, some women were weeping for Him. Then Jesus took time to tell them of the uncertain future ahead. Luke 23:27 A large crowd trailed behind, including many grief-stricken women. 28 But Jesus turned and said to them, “Daughters of Jerusalem, don’t weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. 29 For the days are coming when they will say, ‘Fortunate indeed are the women who are childless, the wombs that have not borne a child and the breasts that have never nursed.’ 30 People will beg the mountains, ‘Fall on us,’ and plead with the hills, ‘Bury us.’ 31 For if these things are done when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?” [2]

Jesus’ Warnings Give Light in the Darkness

Why would Jesus take the time to tell them about what was coming? Warnings help us to prepare. When we know we can’t control what is coming, we can pray for guidance, peace, and encouragement. When life is difficult, many are willing to rely on God more than ever before. Warnings force us to focus on the critical things in life and rid ourselves of the extraneous. Warnings give us time to repent, to turn from our sins, and turn toward God. Then, the Lord can mold us to help others.

We are currently living in similar times that call for similar actions. How would you change your life if you began to take the steps outlined above? How would that change those around you? Does this sound too hard? Remember the words of the Apostle Paul. Philippians 4:13For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.[3] The Lord wants to use you to be a light amid darkness.
