Although the battle between good and evil has occurred since satan fell into sin, it seems we are entering a new phase. An often hidden battle now appears to be in the open. The Lord is beginning to unveil the depth of evil in the world. The good news is light always prevails over darkness, and in the end, the Lord wins, and all evil is defeated forever.
In the story of Esther, the Jewish people are part of the Persian Empire. When the Jewish Mordecai offended Haman, a key official in the empire, Haman developed a plan to annihilate the Jews. He deceptively presented this plan to King Xerxes, who approved it. Although Haman is the author of the plan, the real being behind this evil is satan. The Savior would come through the Jewish people, so satan worked behind the scenes, through people like Haman, to kill the Jews.
God Stopped the Enemy’s Plans
Our Lord knows the beginning from the end, and in His wisdom, the Lord raised a young Jewish woman, Esther. When the king looked for a new queen, the beautiful Esther was taken into the palace with many other women for consideration. In the end, King Xerxes selected Esther to be the queen. Later, the Lord would use Esther to intervene on behalf of the Jews, resulting in Hamon’s execution.
Did Noah wonder how the Lord would overcome the evil in the world before God revealed His plan to flood the earth? The Bible does not say. The Bible says that Noah preached to people to warn them so they could turn from their sin. 2 Peter 2:5 And God did not spare the ancient world—except for Noah and the seven others in his family. Noah warned the world of God’s righteous judgment. So God protected Noah when he destroyed the world of ungodly people with a vast flood.[1] The flood recorded in Genesis washed away evil like water washes a dirty dish, and God restarted the human race with Noah and his family.
The Book of Revelation tells us about the final battle between good and evil, even before it occurs. Revelations 20:10 Then the devil, who had deceived them, was thrown into the fiery lake of burning sulfur, joining the beast and the false prophet. There, they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. [2] At this point, the battle between good and evil ends.
What is Our Part in the Battle?
To make a difference in the battle between good and evil, we must first believe in Jesus as our Savior. As we follow the lead of the Holy Spirit in our lives, we let the Lord unfold His plan for our lives that enables us to be agents of good in the world. Like Esther, we don’t know the trials that await us, but as we follow Jesus, He will always give us the strength to do what is right and place us in the right place at the right time. With God’s help, you, too, can make a difference.
