Have you ever wondered why Jesus performed miracles? These signs give us insight into our Savior and His love for us. Jesus’ miracles were not incidents to show off but actions demonstrating God’s power. Almost every miracle Jesus did was a restoration of fallen creation.
In the Gospels, we see Jesus restoring sight to the blind, enabling the lame to walk, and giving life back to the dead. The miracles of Jesus showed His nature and His compassion for people around him.
Jesus’ first miracle was turning water into wine at a wedding in Cana when they had run out. Sometimes, we think God is only concerned about significant things in our lives. When Jesus turned water into wine, it demonstrated that Jesus was concerned about every aspect of our lives.
Jesus’s Miracle Caused the Disciples to Believe in Him
The miracle of turning water into wine profoundly impacted the disciples with Him at the wedding in Cana. John 2:11 This miraculous sign at Cana in Galilee was the first time Jesus revealed his glory. And his disciples believed in him. [1] The four Gospels record thirty-five miracles or signs done by Jesus. As you review the miracles in the Gospel of John, each one was designed to point people to the truth that Jesus is the Son of God who came from heaven.
The miracles Jesus did were not just about Him but about the Kingdom to come. As you look at Jesus’ miracles, you can almost hear Him say, “This is what the Kingdom will be like. There will be complete healing in God’s Kingdom, no more disease or old age, but perfect health and joy of eternal life.” The miracles of Jesus give us a glimpse or taste of what is to come in eternity.
Jesus’ Miracles Testify to His Identity
The miracles of Jesus show our Savior coming down to our broken world. They show Jesus taking on human flesh and touching us when He brought healing to the hurting. Miracles show Jesus overcoming the demons and sending them away. The signs show Him overcoming death when he raises Lazarus back to life. His miracles remind us He has the power to undo all that sin has done to us.
Our Savior came to restore us and the whole world. The disciples would see Jesus do many more miracles as He brought the good news as the Light of the world. Finally, His greatest miracle was His resurrection from the dead after paying the price for our sins upon the cross at Calvary.
Death could not hold Jesus and will not hold anyone who places their faith in Jesus as their Savior. If you have placed your faith in Jesus, one day you will experience the miracle of heaven, wholly restored to spend eternity with the Lord, fellow believers, and the Holy angels.
