Jesus reveals Himself through actions, showing He is the Messiah as He begins His ministry. In the Old Testament, Isaiah the prophet spoke of the signs the Messiah would do when He came. Isaiah 35:5 And when he comes, he will open the eyes of the blind and unplug the ears of the deaf. 6 The lame will leap like a deer, and those who cannot speak will sing for joy! [1]
While John the Baptist was in prison, he heard reports about what Jesus was doing. John then sent two disciples to Jesus to ask if He was the Messiah. Anyone can say they are the Messiah, but Jesus responded to John’s disciples by action. First, he demonstrated and then summarized what He had done.
Actions Speak Louder Than Words
John’s disciples would have been familiar with what Isaiah the prophet had said about the coming of the Messiah as they began their conversation with Jesus. John 7:21 At that very time, Jesus cured many people of their diseases, illnesses, and evil spirits, and he restored sight to many who were blind. 22 Then Jesus told John’s disciples, “Go back to John and tell him what you have seen and heard—the blind see, the lame walk, those with leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised to life, and the Good News is being preached to the poor.” 23 And he added, “God blesses those who do not turn away because of me.” [2]
As John’s disciples listened to Jesus and reflected on what they had heard and seen, it became evident that Jesus is the Messiah.
The God of Revelation
Have you ever struggled with the reality of Jesus as your Savior? A friend shared with me that he met a man who struggled with the reality of Jesus. Although this man had heard about Jesus, he was not a person of faith. One day, this man was quite ill and was taken to the hospital, where he died, went to hell, and then revived.
As he awakened in the emergency room, he called out to Jesus, and the Lord appeared alongside his bed in a ball of light. He died again, this time, going to heaven briefly before being revived again. He told my friend this is how he came to know Jesus as His Savior.
Don’t wait until a time of desperation to cry out to Jesus. Isaiah 55:6Seek the Lord while you can find him. Call on him now while he is near. [3] As we sincerely seek the Lord through His word and prayer, He will reveal Himself to us in ways only He knows. The God of the universe wants a personal relationship with you and loves you more than you can imagine.
Listen to the still, small voice of the Holy Spirit as He guides you to come to Him in a way you may not have experienced before. 1 Corinthians 1:18The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God.[4] To learn how Jesus reveals Himself through actions, listen here:
