The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Prophecy shows God’s power as revealed in the words of the prophet Isaiah in chapter nine, verse seven of his book. God is all-powerful, and His prophetic words spoken by the prophets always come true. No power in the universe can stop God from carrying out His will. Isaiah 9:7He (The Messiah) will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David, for all eternity. The passionate commitment of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies will make this happen![1]

This prophecy tells us that the Messiah will have great power. The context of Isaiah 9:1- 7 is a time of darkness because, as a whole, the nation had turned from God in sin. God’s people were in trouble, and the cruel nation of Assyria was threatening to invade. But even in this coming judgment, Isaiah had a word from God to the faithful remnant of Israel. Unfortunately, faithful believers suffer because of others, but this does not mean the Lord has forgotten them. Perhaps you feel forgotten today, but the Lord wants to reassure you of His faithfulness.

God’s People Had to Wait for the Messiah

The Messiah would be powerful, and when He came, He would change the course of human history, but the people had to wait on God’s timing. When Jesus died for our sins on the cross, He defeated sin, death, and the devil. Isaiah 9:1-7 is the story of the coming of the Messiah who will win our salvation.

This great victory shows His unmatched power. As people, our sins are great, and our need is immense, but God’s grace is still greater. John 10:11 I (Jesus) am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep.[2] As the sheep of His pasture, we will never reach the limit of Jesus’ strength and power. We will never exceed the storehouse of His amazing grace. No matter where we are, we can’t run so far that our Savior can’t find us. No matter our sins, we can repent and come to the cross of Jesus and be forgiven. This is a power we can’t fathom in our human frailty.

The Lord’s Heavenly Armies

The Lord’s heavenly armies are His angels, which gives us insight into God’s power, as shown in this prophecy about the coming of the Messiah. Nothing will stop the coming of the Messiah and the fulfillment of His mission.

When Jesus rose from the dead, this victory was complete. Jesus never tires of saving sinners. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. [3]
