Receiving spiritual insight from the Lord is a gift He bestows on His children. This was the type of insight Elizabeth received when her younger relative, Mary, came to visit her. Luke 1:42 Elizabeth gave a glad cry and exclaimed to Mary, “God has blessed you above all women, and your child is blessed.[1]
Only God was able to reveal to Elizabeth that Mary was pregnant. Just days earlier, the angel Gabriel had visited Mary to tell her she had found favor with God. The angel went on to say that she would conceive and give birth to a son, and they were to name him Jesus. Luke 1:32 He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David.[2] When Mary asked how this would happen, the angel told her she would become pregnant by the Holy Spirit. The sign to confirm this was that her relative Elizabeth, who was barren, was in her sixth month of pregnancy.
Spiritual Insight Along My Faith Journey
Many people of faith desire spiritual insight. Still, we often overlook the spiritual connections woven into everyday life. How can someone achieve a breakthrough between the physical and spiritual realms? 2 Timothy 2:7 Think about what I am saying. The Lord will help you understand all these things. [3] Interestingly, Paul took the time to share the keys to spiritual insight with Timothy. It’s not just about reading a passage but reflecting on what it says. This advice applies not only to Timothy but also to us today.
In many ways, we are like a chick inside a shell. When the chick breaks out, it finds itself in a whole new world. Of course, it was always there, but they could not see it. As we spend time with the Lord in His word, prayer, and worship, we begin to receive insights that we may never have had before. In Luke 1:6, Elizabeth, Mary’s relative, is described as righteous and careful to obey all of the Lord’s commands. There was something about her relationship with the Lord that allowed Elizabeth to hear from the Lord.
Growing in Spiritual Insight
Are you looking to gain deeper spiritual insight? If that’s the case, it’s wonderful because it reflects your response to the Holy Spirit working within your heart. God truly delights when we come to Him in prayer, asking to strengthen our relationship and to hear His gentle voice better. Just like in any close relationship, the more time we spend with someone, the more we come to know them, and God is no different. Spending time in God’s word helps us understand what pleases Him and what doesn’t.
Even though my parents have been gone for years, I still instinctively know what they would approve of or not, which reminds me of how familiar and meaningful our connection with God can become. 1 Corinthians 12:8To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge.[4] God blesses us by receiving spiritual insight.
