How to Trust God's Timing in Your Pain | ChristianNet

The year is 605 B.C. and Babylon has begun its domination of Jerusalem and Judah. God is using Nebuchadnezzar as a tool of judgment. (Jer. 27:6) God’s people had rebelled and He was giving them a big timeout. Daniel, who was part of the royal court, was deported to Babylon. There he was trained to work in the Babylonian system.

Although Daniel and his friends were young, they had made up their minds to serve God, even in a pagan land. God blessed their obedience and allowed them to be placed in significant roles. Daniel and his friends become what we would call advisors to the king. This was a role Daniel never would have imagined. As a believer, he would be influencing pagan kings.

In a way, all of us are in a similar position today as we are in the midst of this pandemic. We have been “exiled” to our homes. Some of us have lost jobs while, if others are working overtime to meet the demands of the time. All of us have been affected in some way by the pandemic. Daniel was probably grieved over the loss of life as he knew it, we don’t know for sure as the Scripture is silent on this. But Daniel was a human being and there certainly was loss in his life.

But through it all, Daniel continued to trust God and we can follow his example. The king needed a dream interpreted and the other advisors complained that they couldn’t do it. Daniel 2: 11 The king’s demand is impossible. No one except the gods can tell you your dream, and they do not live here among people.”[1] However, Daniel knew God and knew that God could help him. He involved his friends by asking them to pray for the solution and God gave the dream interpretation to Daniel. Daniel responds by saying, Daniel 2: 23 I thank and praise you, God of my ancestors, for you have given me wisdom and strength. You have told me what we asked of you and revealed to us what the king demanded.”[2]

Our times may not be what we expected during this pandemic “timeout”, but God is still our wisdom, strength, and hope. He can reveal what is needed during this unusual time. He has a purpose for each of us during this pandemic. Seek God and He will reveal what is needed, just like He did with Daniel.
