I remember going back to the airport in Seattle on the car rental bus and next to me was another fellow traveler. In a conversation that was less than ten minutes the Lord prompted me to share the good news of Jesus with him. I planted a seed and its results are still unknown.
Have you ever had a divine appointment?
A divine appointment is a special, unforeseen, meeting to share Jesus, encourage, or pray for someone. It could also be time of a connection with another person that becomes significant in your life. These appointments are set up by God’s divine will. God is breaking into your world to use you, encourage you or give you a key relationship connection for the future. Psalm 37:23 gives us insight into the hand of God regarding divine appointments. The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. [1] Jesus had a divine appointment with the woman at the well.
As Jesus was going about his daily ministry His heavenly Father arranged a divine appointment with a woman whose life would be forever changed because she encountered Jesus.
John 4:4 Jesus had to go through Samaria on the way. 5 Eventually he came to the Samaritan village of Sychar, near the field that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. 6 Jacob’s well was there; and Jesus, tired from the long walk, sat wearily beside the well about noontime. 7 Soon a Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, “Please give me a drink.” 8 He was alone at the time because his disciples had gone into the village to buy some food.
9 The woman was surprised, for Jews refuse to have anything to do with Samaritans. She said to Jesus, “You are a Jew, and I am a Samaritan woman. Why are you asking me for a drink?”
10 Jesus replied, “If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.” [2]
What do divine appointments tell us about God?
When we surrender our lives and our days to God, He actively involves Himself with us. According to Scripture, He deliberately directs our steps. He engages Himself in the details of our lives, including many of the people we meet and opportunities we encounter. He appoints a daily pathway for us and guides us on it. Everyday becomes an exciting adventure as we anticipate God showing up in our world! God has divine appointments for you today.
Prayer
Lord, make me sensitive to your special moments in my life. Help me to look for them, listen for them, and make the most of them!
