I believe every parent wants good things for their children. Parents will make great sacrifices for their children because they love them. Where does the desire for good things come from? Where does this sense of sacrifice for your children originate from? It comes from God’s desire for you!
Parents want good things for their children and so does the Lord who created you. We don’t often think about what God desires for our lives, but that does not mean God does not have desires for us. The Lord is more interested in you than anybody, even your parents. God created you and placed you at a certain place at a certain time. It is God who has developed a plan for your life before you were even born.
What is God’s desire for you?
Psalm 139:16 You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. 17 How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! [1]
It is God’s desire that you respond to the promptings of the Holy Spirit and place your faith in Jesus as your Lord and Savior. Why? The Lord knows that Jesus is the only way to heaven and there is no other. Without faith in Jesus, you will go to hell upon your death for all eternity. With faith in Jesus, you will go to heaven one day. As we seek the Lord in faith, He will unfold His amazing plan for our life.
Enoch fulfilled God’s Desire
What do we know about Enoch? He pleased God! Why? His faith enabled him to please God. Enoch walked in closed fellowship with God, which speaks to his relationship with the Lord.
Genesis 5:23 Enoch lived 365 years, 24 walking in close fellowship with God. Then one day he disappeared, because God took him. [2]
Hebrews 11:5 It was by faith that Enoch was taken up to heaven without dying—“he disappeared, because God took him.” For before he was taken up, he was known as a person who pleased God. 6 And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him. [3]
God rewards those who seek Him. How? It you believe in Jesus as your Savior the Holy Spirit comes and lives inside of you. Wow! Yes, God Himself takes up residence. God also has a heavenly home prepared for those who have faith in Jesus when they die. Each day of your life was laid out by the Lord, and He has a plan for your life only He could create.
Will you give up your desires for God’s desires?
As we grow in our relationship with the Lord, we see the wisdom of His plan verses our plan. I wished I had learned that much earlier in my life! Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:33Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. [4]
