Have you ever struggled with putting something you view as important ahead of your relationship with the Lord? There are times when you must remove idols from your life. In our modern age we tend to think that we don’t have idols. We may think of idols as only statues or objects of false worship when people don’t know Jesus, but is that true? Idols are anything that we place ahead of God. Examples of idols could be a house, car, clothing, a sports team, your job, or anything else that is more important than God.
King Asa Removed Idols from his Nation
2 Chronicles 14:2 Asa did what was pleasing and good in the sight of the Lord his God. 3 He removed the foreign altars and the pagan shrines. He smashed the sacred pillars and cut down the Asherah poles. 4 He commanded the people of Judah to seek the Lord, the God of their ancestors, and to obey his law and his commands. 5 Asa also removed the pagan shrines, as well as the incense altars from every one of Judah’s towns. [1]
The Lord used King Asa to intervene on His behalf to remove idols. These idols took people away from God. Our enemy, Satan, deceives people into worshiping false idols instead of the one true God.
Jesus gives us insight as He speaks to unbelieving people. John 8:44 For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.[2]
The Lord Will Help Us Move Away from Idols in Our Lives
As we ask, the Lord will reveal the idols in our life that are hindering our relationship with Him. The Lord wants to be number one in our life and He knows our life is much better when that happens. He always has our best interest in heart and wants us to repent of our sins and turn to Him. As we move forward along our faith journey and trust the Lord, He will enrich our life spiritually beyond anything we can imagine.
The Lord Satisfies Our Deepest Desires
Only God can satisfy the deepest needs of our heart and make us truly alive. That’s why we would be wise to heed the loving counsel of the apostle Paul. 1 Corinthians 10:14“So, my dear friends, flee from the worship of idols.[3] To hear more about how to remove idols from your life, listen here: https://podpoint.com/light-of-christ-church-podcast/seeking-the-lord-changes-my-life-asa
