The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

God’s word drives out spiritual darkness to bring light. The power of God’s word is so great it awakens people spiritually and pulls them out of the darkness of unbelief. Perhaps the Lord is placing on your heart to pray for someone who does not know Jesus as their Savior. They are in spiritual darkness.

A praying mother I know interceded for her son to come to know Jesus. After many years went by, he came to faith as he listened to the word of God preached on the radio. God’s word began to work in him, convicting him of sin, which led to confessing his sin and asking Jesus into his heart. The Holy Spirit had been at work in his life for years, and now the seed of His word fell on good soil. God answered a faithful mother’s prayers!

God’s Word Brings Spiritual Transformation

Jesus taught the people about the power of God’s word by telling them a parable about a lamp. Mark 4:21 Then Jesus asked them, “Would anyone light a lamp and then put it under a basket or under a bed? Of course not! A lamp is placed on a stand, where its light will shine. 22 For everything that is hidden will eventually be brought into the open, and every secret will be brought to light. 23 Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand.” [1]

As Jesus told this parable, He used it to reveal the truth about God’s Kingdom. Just as a small lamp can light an entire room, God’s word can bring spiritual light into a person’s life or community. Thus, the Kingdom of God grows.

God’s Word Sets Prisoners Free

I heard a prison chaplain tell a testimony about one of the prisoners. This man had made many poor choices which landed him in solitary confinement. There he received a Bible. In despair, he began to read it and the Holy Spirit opened his heart to God’s word. Nearby, prisoners heard his sobs of repentance. The power of God’s word set him free from the prison of his sin. Although still in prison, he was free spiritually for the first time.

Jesus came into his heart and was with him. No longer was he alone. The Light of God’s word overcame the darkness of his sin. We don’t have to be in prison to walk in spiritual darkness, but the good news is Jesus has overcome this darkness. 1 Peter 2: But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. [2]

Is Jesus calling you to take a step of faith? Remember, as we take the hand of Jesus, He will guide us along the path He has for us with the light of His word. To hear how God’s word drives out spiritual darkness, listen here:
