Jesus affects our hearts through His compassion, love, and humility. Some are drawn to Jesus as He calls them to faith and transforms them. Others chose to rebel against the Lord and His plan for their lives of their free will. God’s plan doesn’t include hardened hearts.
The Lord desires that each person come to saving faith and spend eternity with Him in heaven. John 3:16 “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. [1] How has your heart been affected by Jesus? How has that affected your life?
People Spread Their Coats Before Jesus
Jesus enters Jerusalem for the last time right before the Feast of Passover. He knows He will go to the cross to die for our sins in just a few days. Three years earlier, just before Jesus would begin His ministry, John the Baptist called Him the Lamb of God. John 1:29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world![2]
When the Israelites left Egypt, the Lord sent the tenth plague upon Egypt. The Israelites were to slay a one-year-old lamb or goat and place its blood over the doorpost. By doing this, the angel of death would pass over them. Pharaoh allowed the Hebrew people to leave slavery after this tenth plague.
Now Jesus is coming to Jerusalem to shed His blood on the cross to free us from our sins. As Jesus comes into the city, the people are so excited that Jesus has come that they place their garments on the ground before Him as He rides the donkey. The people have no idea what Jesus is going to do for them. As the Lord works in our hearts, we don’t always realize what He is doing. We may not see the changes in ourselves as easily as others around us.
Faith in Jesus Changes Our Heart
Over the years, I have known several people who have come to faith as an adult. This transformed their lives. The Lord transforms our hearts and remolds and shapes us to be more like Him when we come to faith. The change in people’s lives when they believe in Jesus is fantastic.
Heart transformation is the domain and work of the Holy Spirit. Can God change the human heart? He can and does, in His unique ways. 2 Corinthians 5:17 “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” [3]
