The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

The fact that Jesus heals today is remarkable news for every person of faith. As Peter and John were entering the Temple for a time of prayer, the Lord led them to pray for a man who had been lame from birth. The man looked to Peter and John for money, but they had something better. Acts 3:But Peter said, “I don’t have any silver or gold for you. But I’ll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!” [1] As the healing came, the man leaped to his feet.

Then, the religious leaders questioned Peter and John about this healing. Acts 4:They brought in the two disciples and demanded, “By what power, or in whose name, have you done this?”[2] As the religious leaders questioned Peter and John, it was the perfect opportunity to tell them about Jesus. Acts 4:9bDo you want to know how he was healed? 10 Let me clearly state to all of you and to all the people of Israel that he was healed by the powerful name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, the man you crucified but whom God raised from the dead.[3]

Eternal life is the Most Remarkable Healing

As the religious leaders questioned Peter and John about the healing of the lame man, they could not deny the healing. During Jesus’s ministry on earth, He healed people because He had compassion for them. In addition, He wanted to strengthen their faith or lead them and others to faith. He does the same today. As believers in Jesus, He has given us authority in His name to pray for healing for people.

We were doing a crusade in Central America, and many people came down to the field for prayer. A young lady I prayed for recognized me the following day as I ate lunch at a local pizza restaurant. She came to my table, smiling and overjoyed because the Lord had changed her life. The pain she had experienced for years was gone, which also helped her faith to grow. When the Lord touches us with such healing, our relationship with Jesus takes on new meaning as He draws us to a deeper faith.

Jesus Heals Our Hurts

Jesus not only heals our physical bodies but can also heal emotional and spiritual pain. Hurts on the inside are invisible but can cause significant distress in our lives. Perhaps you are hurting today because of abuse of some type or something that you did. When we experience this pain, a favorite verse encourages us to bring our pain to God. Hebrews 4:16 So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There, we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. [4] When we come to the Lord or have others pray over us, something happens as the Lord touches us. Often, we forget the Lord loves us more than we know and wants us to come to Him in our time of need. To learn how Jesus heals today, listen here:
