Jeremiah questioned the Lord when he was called to be a prophet. God responded by putting words in his mouth that he would proclaim to the people. Jeremiah was afraid and God promised to be with him. The Lord went on to say he would make Jeremiah strong.
Jeremiah 1:18 For see, today I have made you strong like a fortified city that cannot be captured, like an iron pillar or a bronze wall. You will stand against the whole land— the kings, officials, priests, and people of Judah. 19 They will fight you, but they will fail. For I am with you, and I will take care of you. I, the Lord, have spoken!” [1]
In many ways we are like Jeremiah. We feel we are not adequate. We feel afraid and are not strong enough to carry out what the Lord is calling us to do.
- We say to the Lord, “I don’t know what to say.” The Lord tells us from Luke 12:12, “for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what needs to be said.” [2]
- We say to the Lord, “ I am afraid.” The Lord tells us Matthew 28:20, “Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” [3]
- We say, “I don’t have the strength.” The Lord tells us in 1 Chron. 16:11 -Search for the Lord and for his strength; continually seek him. [4]
Is the Lord calling you today to rely on His strength? Take his hand, let Him comfort you and give you the strength and the words only He can give. May the Lord be with you Mighty Warrior of God.”
